Keeping up with trends has never really been my thing until my new Mac laptop got me into ladies laptop bags. Although during my twenties, I was obsessed with matching everything in my outfit–shoes, belts, earrings, pocketbooks. And they were all colorful. Later, after working in Manhattan, I became a little more conservative wearing the classic city shades of black, grey, brown and white.

Now twenty years later, my two daughters–one in her twenties and the other ten going on thirty–keep me abreast to the latest trends. My little one especially keeps me current with Disney features, girly fashions and the hottest new starlet or heart-throb. A while back everything was about mermaids with her, which lead us to watching the American-Australian made movie Aquamarine, starring Sara Paxton, about a thousand times. She’s now in the hottest new show “The Beautiful Life” premiering September 16th on the CW Television Network.

Technology has taken us from a desktop computer in every home as the norm to toting a notebook as not only a standard business practice, but one of personal convenience.

For women, the new portable edge has given rise to the importance of using quality ladies laptop bags to manage both work and home. While other portable technology, like MP3 Players and Smart Phones are getting smaller by popularity, the larger 17″ portable computers are the new growing trend. One immediate drawback for ladies who have a larger notebook is that designers have not kept up with producing many laptop bags for women that fit the wider laptop.

While doing some research, I came across an article from MacWorld highlighting a messenger laptop bag from Knomo called Brixton Saxby which made their July 2009 “editor’s choice” for its functionality, spaciousness and sharp high-gloss appearance. In looking further, I discovered that the Saxby was also the pick of Samuel L. Jackson, who praises Knomo for their ability to combine the stylish with the practical. Not exactly a women’s laptop bag, even if it did have a slew of hidden pockets that us gals like for all our incidentals.

More investigation into Knomo products lead me to learn about their founder, Howard Harrison, whose main goal back in 2004 was to create accessories that are both stylish are functional. After just one look at their gorgeous line of both women’s and men’s travel cases, I knew they had top-quality products. But did they have a nice choice of ladies laptop bags to fit my 17″ MacBook?
The answer is yes…with a “but”. Yes, Knomo succeeded with keeping up with changing technology with five classy styles of 17″ laptop bags for women. One ultra light, streamline option for a reasonable price called Slim gave a professional look while offering a nylon twill quilting to protect your investment from sudden bumps. Plus, it had a removable shoulder strap and a retractable padded handle to easily slip the bag into a larger tote. Slim is a great value for the price.

The “but” was that all Knomo’s 17″ ladies laptop bags comes only in black, brown or gray. Though Slim specifically comes in a variety of bright colors for smaller laptop sizes, it is only available in classic black for the 17″ option. A bummer for a gal like me with a full size laptop who is looking to brighten up her accessories wardrobe.

Nevertheless, Knomo gets kudos for their detail to quality, classic design and functionality. Let me not forget to share one unique feature Knomo offers: every bag comes with an ID tracking system that can locate your case if it gets lost. Wow, that little extra sold me!
